National Coffee Day 2020 – Tuesday, September 29, 2020: Each year National Coffee Day is celebrated in the United States and Canada on September 29 while International Coffee Day is celebrated on October 1. The basic purpose of this day is to help out the struggling coffee farmers worldwide and to raise their lifestyle. On the national coffee day, many businesses offer free and special discounted coffee beverages. Some companies even sell National Coffee Day greeting cards and also offer special promotions on this day.

The history of Coffee is very old and it tends to the 15th century Yemen. Europeans got the taste of Coffee about 100 years later in the leading of Venice. According to the National Coffee Association, some people reacted very suspiciously towards the new beverage and considered it‘bitter invention of Satan.’ When the coffee came to Venice in 1615,  the local clergy condemned it and Pope Clement VIII needed to intervene in this matter. He gave it papal approval after tasting the beverage for himself and found it so satisfying.

In 1645 first Europe’s official coffeehouse opened in Venice. In 1773, Americans swapped tea for coffee in the Boston Tea Party. Also, King George III’s hefty tea tax became the reason for coffee in and tea out. In the mid-1800s the things were started to change when cowboys in the American West started to buy coffee from two brothers (John and Charles Arbuckle).  James Folger was the person who successfully introduced coffee in California. In the year 1865, Folger became a partner of the Steam Coffee & Spice Mills. In 1872, this Mill became the J.A. Folger & Co.

Also, other brands like Maxwell House and Hills Brothers entered the coffee market. In 1971 Starbucks (a little Seattle company) made history. The U.S Coffee shop market has reached a $45.4 billion industry. In 2017, Dry coffee sales were reached $9 billion in the U.S.

The celebration of the National Coffee Day event started in a meeting at Milan Expo 2015. The first official International Coffee Day was launched after the decision of the International Coffee Organization. This event has also called: Coffee Day or National Coffee Day.
